[Solved] Can’t Access Windows 2000 from Windows 7

\computername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

Are you using Windows 7/Vista and trying to access an old Windows 2000 server?

Here is how I fixed the issue.

  • Go into the registry of the workstation that is trying to access the server and change “RequierSecuritySignature” value to 0.
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetservices …   LanmanWorkstationParametersRequierSecuritySignature
  • Reboot your workstation once the 
What caused this ?

This registry value is set by default if the workstation has been setup using Windows PE or Windows MDT 2012. Its also the default value set if your security GPO settings have been set via Microsoft Security Compliance Manager.
